THE ASK

The Golden State Warriors’ 2018 Christmas Day game versus the Lakers was a big one: It was their first game against Lebron James since he left the Cavaliers.

The matchup was set to bring in massive ratings, so Dropbox wanted eye-catching :06 and :15 pre-roll ads to run before ESPN highlights from the game.

THE CHALLENGE

While Dropbox is a Warriors sponsor, we couldn’t mention this in the ad. Furthermore, we weren’t allowed to say “Warriors”, use game footage, or use the team’s logo!

THE IDEA

Taking design cues from their recent rebrand, we created animated videos that connected Dropbox’s distinctive illustration style and campaign language to key moments that happen during a basketball game. To ensure viewers knew we were pro-Warriors, we made sure to only use the team’s colors.
